Cheri B. Atkin received all her college degrees from Utah based colleges and universities, Dixie State College (AS), Brigham Young University (BS) Sociology, Minor Psychology, and the University of Utah (MS) Educational Psychology. She was a teacher at South High School in Salt Lake from 1968-1970 and taught Sociology at Dixie College 1970-1972, as well as being an adjunct teacher at Dixie College 1990-1997. She served as the Operation Manager for the World Senior Games the predecessor to what is now known as the Huntsman World Senior Games. Since 1996 she has been a Certified Legal Assistant. Cheri has received numerous awards and recognition for her work in various community and leadership roles, such as, being instrumental in organizing the Dixie Tennis Association, 1996 St. George Area Chamber of Commerce “Woman of the Year”, 1997 World Senior Games Achievement for Excellence Award, 1998 Board Member of Leadership Dixie Heritage of the Arts Foundations, 1998 World Senior Games Hall of Fame Inductee, since the year 2000 has been a member of the Dixie State University’s National Advisory Council, 2003 recipient of the Dixie College Distinguished Citizens Award, 2004-2011 Member of Brigham Young University’s National Advisory Council, 2010 to present Co-Chair of the Dixie State Centennial Campaign Committee, 2013 inducted into Dixie State University Hall of Fame. Both Cheri and her husband Ralph have also served on many church activities, such as recently serving as Public Affairs Volunteers in Turkey for the LDS Church. The Atkins’ enjoy travel, golf and tennis, in addition to church, community and educational service, but their family always comes first. They have eight children and twenty-five grandchildren.
