Jerry C. Atkin (1948-)

Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Skywest, Inc., and its subsidiary companies, was born, raised and educated in St. George, Utah. He graduated from Dixie College in 1969, then obtained his bachelor’s and MBA degrees from the University of Utah. He practiced as a Certified Public Accountant for two years prior to joining Skywest in 1974. He was first hired at Skywest as Director of Finance, then in 1975, was made president and CEO. In 1991, in addition to his other administrative positions, Jerry was elected Chairman of the Board. He has led Skywest from annual revenues of under $1 million to over $400 million.

He is a member of the Board of Directors for Regence Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Utah, The Regence Group of Portland, Ore., Zions Bancorporation, a bank holding company, and the Regional Airlines Association. In 1981, he was named the Outstanding Young Businessman of the Year by the St. George Chamber of Commerce and was the recipient of an Honorary Doctor of Humanities degree from Dixie College in 1995. In 1999, he was appointed a member of the Utah State Board of Regents of the Utah System of Higher Education. He and his wife, the former Carolyn Jones, are the parents of three sons and one daughter.
